Detroit Downtown Apartments
Detroit Downtown Apartments

Did we miss anything? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

The Detroit Apartments are all relatively alike, but the contents of the rooms in each varies dramatically. There are four such buildings in total, all within the same area (accessed from the Detroit Back Alley or nearby). Some of the rooms are relevant to the side-quests you'll find in Detroit, but others are there just to explore. Most are locked with a keypad, so you'll need to put points into Hacking: Capture if you want to get into all of them.

1 - Brian Tindall's Apartment

You'll enter this apartment during the side-quest Lesser Evils. The door is locked with a level 1 keypad, so you should be able to get in easily. Once inside, you'll receive a +300 XP bonus (in addition to the +300 XP bonus from entering the building). Search his computer to find both evidence that he's moved on to the gas station to meet with a client, and the door code to the building's front gate, "0002". As soon as you access the computer, a hostile junkie will come in and start demanding he see Tindall. Kill him, knock him out, or sneak away, grabbing his Pocket Secretary and Machine Pistol. Time to head back out into the alley to meet with Tindall.

The apartment has a little bit of extra loot for you. There's a 10mm Pistol in one of the computer desk drawers, and a Credit Chip in the other. Check the nightstand for an eBook if you're interested in some reading material, as well.

2 - O'Malley's Apartment

You'll visit this apartment, home to corrupt cop O'Malley, during the Cloak & Daggers quest. Entering the apartment will provide you with +300 XP. Grab the 10mm Pistol from the desk, then search the shelves near his desk for a Pocket Secretary tucked away on the bottom row, containing the code "1029". Use that code on the keypad-locked door, or hack it (level 4) to open it up.

However, once you've got the door open, don't step inside - there are several mines rigged to blow you sky-high if you do. Instead, use your 10mm Pistol or another weapon to set off the mines. Alternately, if you crouch down and walk slowly, you can disable them when you get close. When it's clear, proceed in and you'll get a +200 XP bonus.

Your objective here is to find incriminating evidence of O'Malley: check the Weapons Shipment (briefcase) on his bed, then check the nearby nightstand for a Package of Drugs. You can also hack his computer (level 1) to find out that he's working with FEMA, and his goal in instigating the gang war is to draw attention away from a place called Highland Park.

As for additional loot, you can open the safe (level 3 lock) for some Shotgun Cartridges and Nuke Virus Software, and you'll find an eBook on private military companies and a Shotgun in the bathroom.

If you decide to arrest O'Malley yourself during the Cloak & Daggers quest, you'll find him waiting for you in his apartment. He has a proposition for you - let him go, and you'll receive +3000 Credits (found in your apartment at the Chiron Building). If you accept (+100 XP), he'll leave, and you'll receive the achievement The Take. If you deny O'Malley, he'll resist arrest, but he's lightly armed and should pose no challenge. You can kill him for some "street justice" (+300 XP), or incapacitate him (+300 XP). When you're through, return to Jenny Alexander, who you'll find near the fire escape outside in the alley just outside.

3 - "Docta's" Apartment

Hacking the level 5 keypad or using the code "2356" (found in the City Streets North area) will earn you a +200 XP bonus upon entering this apartment. There's a bunch of surgical equipment set up... someone running an "unofficial" augmentation clinic, perhaps? In the locked level 2 bedroom, you'll find a Scholar eBook for another +200 XP, and the computer can be hacked (level 1) to find the code to the storage area (level 5) in the same room, "3663". Inside (+100 XP), you'll find a Praxis Kit, CyberBoost ProEnergy Pack, and two 10mm Pistols in the weapons locker.

4 - Detective Chase

You'll meet Detective Chase during the Motherly Ties side-quest. Chase is Cassandra Reed's former private investigator who gave up the, er, chase. Speak to him (+100 XP) and you'll receive three leads from Chase: a storage locker near the Police Station (code "4891"), the crooked cop Chet Wagner, and Detective Penn's computer. During the conversation, Chase can be persuaded to spill the beans on the code to a safe inside the storage locker - use your CASIE augment to select the "charm" response.

When you're done speaking to him, you'll need to head off to the Police Station and Detroit City Streets North to investigate the leads.

5 - Thorpe's Apartment

This apartment is the home of Greg and Josie Thorpe, who you'll recall from the Sarif Plant. If you rescued Josie Thorpe, and answered your e-mail at Sarif Industries, you'll find the couple in the apartment. Speak with Greg (+750 XP), and he'll offer you a discount with the arms dealer Seurat, who lives in the North Apartments.

If you haven't yet got in contact with Thorpe, or Josie died, the house will be empty, and the door secured with a level 1 keypad. If you're up for some house-crashing, you can head into their bedroom, and move the picture on the wall to reveal a safe. Hack the level 2 keypad for a couple of Credit Chips. Last, check their nightstand for a Scholar eBook, "Nano-Augmentation: Pipedream, or Theory for the Future?", and +200 XP.

6 - Locked Apartment

This apartment is sealed off until you return to Detroit later in the game.

7 - Abandoned Apartment

You'll visit this apartment later in the game for another side-quest, but for now it's mostly empty. Hack the level 2 keypad to enter and receive a +100 XP bonus, then search the kitchen for a Credit Chip, the bedroom for an eBook, and the bathroom for a CyberBoost ProEnergy Bar. The computer in the bedroom has level 1 security, and has some minor information on the tenant.

8 - Laura Vale's Apartment

Hack the level 2 keypad to get in here, and you'll receive a +100 XP bonus on entering. The owner, Ms. Vale, isn't around, so read the eBook on the nearby table for some background on Picus, then check the kitchen for a Pocket Secretary with the code "0739". That code comes in handy in opening the hidden safe in the bedroom behind the picture frame (otherwise it's a level 3 lock), which contains a 10mm Pistol, a Nuke Virus and an Automatic Unlocking Device (DLC only). Last, you can hack her computer (level 2 security) to find out that Ms. Vale is a bit of a conspiracy nut, and spends her time harassing the NSA. Sounds like the perfect fit for someone like Jensen.

9 - Seurat's Apartment

The arms dealer Seurat is held up here in his apartment, along with his bodyguard. If you've spoken with Greg Thorpe during the brief One Good Turn Deserves Another quest, he'll give you a flat 25% discount on his wares. He sells the following:

If you're up for some subterfuge, sneak into Seurat's apartment - Seurat and his guard will become alarmed if they notice you. You'll find a Scholar eBook, "Respirocyte Technology & Hazardous Environment Parsing", worth +200 XP inside, and the computer has some details on Seurat's arms smuggling operation. Last, there's a safe on the desk next to the computer, level 4, that contains a 10mm Pistol, two packs of Stun Gun Darts, and a Pocket Secretary with a tip to check out the storage locker near Seurat's apartment (near the basketball court in the Detroit Back Alley). Be sure you don't get caught hacking, or Seurat and his man will open fire.

10 - Locked Apartment

This apartment is inaccessible for now. Don't worry, you'll come back for it later in the game.

11 - Motor City Bangers Apartment

A rival gang to the Derelict Row Ballers, the MCBs are holed up in this apartment. You'll receive a warning from the guard to stay away; if you hang around long enough or try to get into the apartment, you'll be attacked. The guard at the entrance has a Pocket Secretary on him with the code to the bedroom, "3733", and will reward you with +300 XP. Around the apartment, you'll find two 10mm Pistols, a Credit Chip on the computer desk, a Stop! Worm Software in the drawer, and some Tranquilizer Darts and a Concussion Grenade in the bathroom lockers. You can also hack the computer (level 2) to find out that Tindall, from the Lesser Evils quest, has been providing Neuropozyne to the MCB gang members.

If you're doing the Cloak & Daggers quest and have come to knock out Double-T and his crew, you'll find six of them in total, Double-T included (+100 XP). You can take a direct route (the PEPS found in the Police Station works great for this), or sneak in, which is probably the better option. The bedroom is locked behind a level 3 door, but you can use the code "3733" to gain access, as found on one of the dead gangers. Additionally, there's a weak wall marked at (12) that you can punch through, and gain direct access to Double-T without having to go through the front door. Taking out all the gangsters will award you with +100 XP, along with whatever you received from your takedowns/knock-outs/etc.

12 - Weak Wall

There's a weak wall section here. If you have the necessary augmentation, you can smash through and gain access to the MCBs' bathroom area. Note that this will cause some noise and alert the guards.
