Single vs. Dual Wield

Having finished the game 4 times now, twice with a two weapon specialist and twice with a dueler, I have to say, the dueling characters were much more powerful. I mean phenomenally.

I wondered at this and so did some number crunching.

Whenever figuring probability, one must take the chance of success and see what it yields over the long term. Let us take the example of 2 level 8 guardians of identical configuration except that one uses two weapons nd the other uses one weapon (with dueling)

We assume that master flurry is also known and that tier 3 speed is known (I know that it is impossible to achieve this combination with a level 8 character, but the number crunching could also be done with a level 18 and the same result would occur)

Let us say that the target we are attacking has a defense of 20. To figure out the expected damage, we apply schoolyard probability), we multiply the probability of a hit by the aggregate damage of the weapon being used. ( A light saber and a short light sabre).

Level 8
MasterTwoWeapon OR MasterDueling
MasterFlurry

Str 14
+ Focus (+3/+2)
Target Def = 20

(Please keep in mind, the average damage for 2d8+2 is 11 and the average for 2d6+2 is 9)

We see from this that in the situation that a standard attack (no speed, no flurry) the two weapon option is better, but as we start to stack on the attacks, the damage from the one weapon style starts to pull ahead. Now I don't know about you guys, buy when I am doing the star forge, there is not a single fight I do not go into without tier three speed backing me up.

So we know that Dueling, in the later stages one the game, does more damage on an aggregate basis than two weapon fighting due simply to its better chance to hit (p.s. number crunch this with a higher level situation if you wont, the result will be the same). Then take into account that you also have a +3 Defense, I fully appreciate that the duelist is a more potent option than the two weapons.

That said, I like two weapons for the versatility it gives you (especially when you use the mantle of the force and the heart of the guardian, one in each hand...now that is cool).

I don't think one handed vs. two handed is an automatic choice, I think it is simply a case of power vs versatility.

The Best on Taris

At the very beginning on Taris go to the weapons store and buy the Echani Ritual Brand; it's the best weapon until you get your lightsaber
