Task: Open Apartment Door for Evrart

Did we miss anything in this task? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

When you ask Evrart Claire (#1) about the hanging, he'll say that he'd like to help you out, only he needs something in return. He'll then ask you to open the door of "a loud blabbering weasel" -- and that's it, just open the door and then return. If you agree to this, then you'll trigger the task.

Note: You'll have to agree to this task if you want get useful information out of Evrart, or if you want to get your gun back.

Walkthrough

The first thing you'll need to do for this task is pick up the Key to Basement Apartment from Call-Me-Manana (#2). If you keep talking to Manana after receiving the key, then you'll be able to ask him, "Why are you striking?" If you then continue to ask questions, and if you pass a passive Suggestion check and an active Inland Empire check, then he'll call you a boiadeiro. If you ask him what that means, then you'll unlock the thought Boiadeiro.

The apartment in question (#4) belongs to Gary, the Cryptofascist. You'll find it behind the greenhouse behind the Whirling-in-Rags (#3). You'll have three options for how to handle it:
  • You can unlock the door and then enter the apartment or not. Evrart won't care if you go inside. In fact, if you do enter, and if you notice anything unusual, then Evrart will just point out how it makes Gary more of a weasel.

If you search the apartment, then you can find an Interisolary Dress Shirt, Magnesium, and Nosaphed. You'll also spot a row of caricature mugs. If you found the Yellow Man Mug in the trash container (#5) earlier, then you'll recognize it as a part of the same set, and you'll speculate that if Gary has access to the trash container, then he might be the one who threw away the hanged man's clothes. This can help you out in the task Who Put the Clothes in the Trash?

  • You can lie to Evrart about opening the door. You might get this option with him right away, or you might have to go to the apartment and knock on the door first. Knocking on the door will start a conversation between you and Kim, where Kim will point out that nobody seems to be watching you, and so you could just leave the door alone and then lie to Evrart about it.

To lie to Evrart, you'll need to pass a "challenging" Drama check. If you fail it, then Evrart won't hold it against you, but he'll still expect you to complete the task, which means you'll have to follow the option above for unlocking the door. Entering the apartment is productive, so there isn't any good reason to lie to Evrart about it.
Note: Gary will return home after you've completed the task Inspect the Traps. If that happens, then you'll no longer be able to unlock his door or enter his apartment, which means you'll no longer be able to complete the task. However, Evrart will forgive you for your transgression, and he'll proceed as if you were successful. But you'll fail the task, and you won't earn any xp for it.

For completing the task, you'll earn 70 xp, and Evrart will talk to you about the murder. But to learn about your lost gun, you'll need to complete a second task: Get Two Signatures for Evrart.
