Task: Interrogate the Vigilantes

Did we miss anything in this task? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

You'll trigger this task when you talk to Titus Hardie in the mess hall of the Whirling-in-Rags (#1). Titus won't make an appearance until Day 2.

Walkthrough

Depending on where you are in your investigation, you might have a lot of dialogue topics with Titus, but all you'll need to ask him for this task is, "The man hanged in the back yard -- did you do it?" Titus' response will depend on what evidence you have against him. If you've
  • Talked to Evrart Claire (#3), who will flat-out tell you that the Hardie Boys lynched the victim, or

  • Examined the body (#2) and noticed the belt around his neck, which is a type used by dockworkers, or

  • Passed a Visual Calculus check when examining the footprints at the crime scene (#2), and then compared those footprints to the Hardie Boys,
then you'll just need to mention one of the above, and the Hardie Boys will readily admit to -- no, brag about -- committing the crime. They'll even give you a detailed description of what happened, including their motive: revenge for rape against an unnamed woman. Unfortunately, the Hardie Boys will also claim that they're equally responsible, which means you won't be able to arrest anybody. If you try to force the matter, then you and Kim will end up floating in the canal ("More Cops Dead"), and you'll have to load your game.

But gaining the admission from the Hardie Boys, as little as it means, will complete the task and earn you 30 xp. You'll also trigger the task Prove Your Authority to Titus Hardie.
