Background

You'll receive this mission immediately after completing the mission on Horizon.

Walkthrough

From the mission briefing, you'll learn that Thane Krios is a drell assassin "proficient in both long-range sniping kills and close infiltration." You'll also learn that he's currently working on Illium (Tasale / Crescent Nebula).

When you reach Illium, if you ask Liara about Thane, then she'll tell you that his current target is an executive named Nassana Dantius, who you might remember from Mass Effect (you probably helped her kill her sister). Liara will then direct you to a woman Seryna (located in the cargo transfer area), who might be able to tell you more.

When you talk to Seryna, she'll tell you that she used to work for Dantius, but that she was fired after she learned that Dantius "was having people killed to cover up her dirty secrets." Seryna will then admit that while she didn't hire Thane, she wouldn't mind if he succeeded in his mission, and so she'll decide to help you, so you can distract some of Dantius' guards, if nothing else.

Seryna will then inform you that Dantius can be found in the penthouse level of Tower One of the Dantius Towers, and that while confronting her directly won't work, you might be able to sneak up on her via Tower Two, which is currently under construction. Seryna will then drive you to Tower Two, where you'll start the mission.

Inside the tower you'll encounter a whole slew of security mechs and Eclipse mercenaries, and you'll also meet up with a few construction workers who were unfortunate enough to still be in the tower when Dantius decided to clear everybody out. For most of the mission, you'll just need to shoot anything that moves, but in a few places you'll get to do some talking:
  • Injured salarian worker (Side Room 2). If you use the paragon interrupt when talking to him, then you'll save his life and earn +7 paragon points. If you don't use the interrupt, then he'll die, and you'll earn +4 renegade points.

  • Daroth and Shelum (Side Room 3). They'll tell you how much fun it is to work for Dantius. "Tell your assassin to aim for her head, 'cause she doesn't have a heart!"

  • Eclipse trooper (Upper Level 1). You'll be able to question him about Thane, but even if you convince him to talk, he won't tell you anything useful. You can also use a renegade interrupt to toss him through the window. You can earn up to +9 renegade points or +7 paragon points when dealing with the trooper.

  • Datapad (Upper Level 1). When you examine the datapad, you'll learn that it contains "genetic information for the Kirosa family," and you'll trigger the assignment "Salarian Family Data." If you then take the datapad to the salarian in the middle of Illium (on the same level where you met Seryna), then he'll reward you with 1500 credits, +5 paragon points, and 40 xp. You'll also earn +2 renegade points or +2 paragon points depending on how you greet him.

  • Chesith and Telon (Side Room 4). When you enter the room where they're hiding, Telon will pull a gun on you, and you'll be able to use a renegade interrupt to knock him out. You'll also get renegade and paragon dialogue options to convince him to give up the gun. Once the situation has calmed down, Chesith will tell you about his experiences in the tower, and then he and Telon will leave. You'll get 40 xp at the conclusion of the encounter.
Eventually, you'll wade through all of Dantius' mechs and mercenaries, and arrive in her penthouse suite. When you get there, no matter what you say, Thane will drop down from the ceiling and kill Dantius and her bodyguards. Then when he hears that you're recruiting for a suicide mission, he'll tell you that he's dying -- and that he would like to join you. "The universe is a dark place. I'm trying to make it brighter before I die." Thane will then move into the Life Support plant on board the Normandy.

Note: If you return to Illium to talk to Seryna again, then you'll discover that she's no longer on the planet. But her co-worker Tana will give you a note from Seryna, in which she'll congratulate you for your good work.
