Background

You'll receive this mission at some point after completing the mission on Horizon.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Mordin (in the lab on board the Normandy), he'll tell you that a former team member of his named Maelon has been captured by Blood Pack mercenaries on the planet Tuchanka (Aralakh / Krogan DMZ), and he'll worry that it might be in retaliation for the work they did in modifying the genophage. Mordin will then ask you to help him rescue Maelon.

On Tuchanka, you'll need to talk to the clan leader (either Wrex or Wreav) and the chief scout. Between the two, you'll learn that Clan Weyrloc is behind the Blood Pack, and that they're currently holed up in an abandoned hospital. When you're ready to head to the hospital, just talk to the chief scout and select the "take truck" dialogue option.

Note: The chief scout will also mention that he recently sent a scout to check out the hospital, but that the scout hasn't returned. This will trigger the assignment "Missing Scout" (covered below).

As you approach the hospital, you'll encounter klixen (insect-like creatures that will explode when you kill them), varren, and a variety of Blood Pack mercenaries. The mercenaries in this mission will perform about the same as the ones from Mordin's dossier mission The Professor, and you'll be able to kill them the same way. That is, you should use Incinerate or Incendiary Ammo to prevent troopers and krogans from regenerating their health, and you should use Incinerate to cause pyros to explode.

Note: Right outside the hospital you'll find a Combustion Manifold. You'll need this for the assignment "Combustion Manifold" (covered in the location entry for Tuchanka).

Inside the hospital (at the Hospital Entrance), you'll stumble across a discarded human corpse. When you examine it, Mordin will determine that the Blood Pack is attempting to use a "hormonal counterattack" to cure the genophage, and that they're using human test subjects because humans have more diversity than other species.

A little farther in (at the Balcony), you'll be stopped by a Weyrloc Clanspeaker. He'll thump his chest a bit -- "The salarian will cure the genophage and Clan Weyrloc will spread across the galaxy in a sea of blood!" -- and then no matter what you say to him, he and his fellows will attack you. If you use the renegade interrupt while the clanspeaker is ranting, then you'll automatically kill him at the start of the fight.

Past the clanspeaker battle, you'll come to a Lab where you'll learn more about the proposed genophage cure, and you'll also find some resources, credits, and an upgrade. Then beyond that (in Storage Closet 1), you'll encounter a sick krogan, who you'll learn is the "Missing Scout" from the chief scout's assignment. The scout won't want you to stop Clan Weyrloc, and this will give you two ways to proceed. You can kill the scout (gaining at least +4 renegade points), or you can convince him to return to Clan Urdnot (gaining at least +7 renegade or +7 paragon points). If the scout survives, then you'll also earn 40 xp.

Eventually you'll reach Maelon's Lab, and you'll discover that Maelon wasn't kidnapped at all. He was just unhappy with the genophage and decided to look for a way to cure it. This will upset Mordin, and he'll pull a gun on Maelon. If you use a paragon interrupt, then you'll keep Maelon alive and earn paragon points. Otherwise, Maelon will die, you'll earn renegade points. You'll also have to decide what to do about Maelon's research. If you keep it, then you'll earn paragon points. If you destroy it, then you'll earn renegade points. In all you can gain +20-30 renegade or paragon points from the two choices at the end.

After the encounter with Maelon, you'll get the option to stay or go. You should always stay so you can hack the wall computer in the lab and pick up 3000 credits. Then when you end the mission (by pressing F on the PC), you'll be returned to Tuchanka, and Mordin will gain the Neural Shock power.
