Background

You'll receive this quest from Gloria Van Graff in the Silver Rush in Freeside.

Walkthrough

If you ask Gloria if she has any work available, then she'll give you a series of tasks that you can complete for her. These tasks are described below.

Task 1: Guard Door

For your first task, you'll need to help Simon guard the front door of the shop. To begin the sequence, you'll need to talk to Simon, which will cause him to give you a suit of Van Graff Combat Armor plus either a Van Graff Plasma Rifle or a Van Graff Laser Rifle. Then Simon will explain to you the rules. You should keep the riffraff away, search everybody who wants to enter the shop, and be polite.

After your conversation with Simon, you'll have to deal with the next five customers:
  • Drunk. You should send him away.

  • Gambler. You should search him and send him through.

  • Gambler. You should search him and send him through. This will require you to pass a Speech 65 check.

  • Gambler. You should search him, which will cause him to attack you. On his corpse you'll find a C-4 Plastic Explosive and a Revenge Note.

Note: If you let him through, then he'll blow up the shop, destroying all of the merchandise and killing everybody inside. This will fail the quest, but it's the easiest way to kill the Van Graffs.

  • Pacer. You should avoid picking a fight with him.
Assuming that the Silver Rush is still standing at the end of your shift, when you return to Gloria, she'll pay you 100-300 caps, depending on how well you followed Simon's rules. You'll also lose the armor and weapon that Simon gave you.

Task 2: Deliver Package

For your next task, Gloria will give you a Van Graff Package and ask you to deliver it to a customer on the outskirts of town (near Raul's Shack). When you talk to the customer there, if you pass a Speech 75 check, then you'll be able to convince him to pay you 200 caps. But regardless, when you hand over the package and return to Gloria, you'll receive 200 caps for your efforts.

Task 3: Find Cass

For this task, you'll need to talk to Gloria's brother Jean-Baptiste Cutting (located right next to her in the Silver Rush). Jean-Baptiste will ask you to find a girl named Rose of Sharon Cassidy (aka Cass) so he can "tie up a loose end." You'll find Cass in the barracks of the Mojave Outpost. To get her to follow you to the Silver Rush, you'll need to make her available as a companion, which means you'll need to complete a part of the quest You Can Depend on Me, given by Alice McLafferty at the Crimson Caravan Company.

When you bring Cass to the Silver Rush, you'll have to make a choice: to let Jean-Baptiste kill her or not. If you protect Cass, then you'll have to fight everybody in the Silver Rush, including Jean-Baptiste and Gloria, and you'll fail the quest. If let Jean-Baptiste kill Cass, then you'll lose Cass as a companion, but you'll receive 350 caps in reward. If you killed Cass earlier, then you'll get the same reward from Jean-Baptiste when you let him know that she's already dead.

Task 4: Ambush Legion

When you talk to Gloria again, she'll tell you that she's planning a big deal with the Legion, and that you're needed as an escort. At the end of your conversation, you'll receive a suit of Van Graff Combat Armor, and you'll be transported to an abandoned warehouse (located near the Allied Technologies Offices), where the transaction is to take place.

However, right after your arrive at the warehouse, Gloria will warn you that "things are about to get a little crazy," and then some NCR troopers will show up and begin attacking the Legion. If you're not an enemy of the NCR, then you can pretty much just sit back and let the NCR and the Van Graffs do all the work. If the NCR doesn't like you, then the NCR troopers and the ambushed Legion soldiers will both be hostile, and you'll have a tougher time. But either way, after the battle Gloria will reward you with 1000 caps and 600 xp, and you'll also earn fame with Freeside and the NCR.

Note: If you don't want to earn infamy with Caesar's Legion, then you might want to tell your companions to wait for you in the Silver Rush before starting the task.
