Location: NCR Correctional Facility

Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Overview

Unlike some of the other powder ganger sites in the Mojave wasteland, the powder gangers here won't attack you if you're neutral or liked by the powder gangers faction. If you're disliked, then wearing a powder gangers uniform will allow you to explore most of the area safely. You'll just need to avoid bodyguards and named characters.

If your goal is to kill the powder gangers in the facility, then you'll have a much easier time if you blend in and kill them with sneak attacks (which won't alert anybody), than if you just go in with guns blazing. However, if you noisily kill the powder gangers in one part of the facility (like in one of the cell blocks), then the powder gangers in the other parts won't notice.

Note: Just about all of the items in the facility will be "red," regardless of whether you're getting along with the powder gangers or fighting your way through them.

1 - Dawes

If you're neutral or liked by the powder gangers, or if you're wearing a powder ganger uniform, then Dawes will demand 100 caps to let you into the facility. You can avoid this fee if you steal the NCRCF Visitor's Center Key from him. If you're vilified by the powder gangers, then Dawes will attack you if you get too close to him, no matter what, making the issue of the payment moot. Fortunately, none of the other powder gangers will notice if you kill Dawes.

2 - Visitor's Center

Inside this building you'll meet Meyes, a former sheriff who was put in jail for speeding justice along. He'll give you some background information on the facility. Meyers won't care if you kill powder gangers or steal their stuff. You can also find a Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap (on the reception desk) and a copy of Tales of Chivalrie (in a shelf).

3 - Guard Towers

In most of these towers you'll find a guard with a Varmint Rifle. The guards won't track your movements, so if you're infiltrating the facility or just feeling kid of evil, it's pretty easy to move behind the guards and kill them with a single sneak attack. If you loot the towers, then you'll find some meds and ammunition, including 48 .308 Rounds and 40 .357 Magnum Rounds.

4 - Administration Building

On the first floor of this building, you'll meet Hannigan, the powder ganger doctor. For 50 caps, he'll heal your wounds, but he won't be able to do anything about radiation poisoning. On the second floor, you'll meet Eddie, the leader of the powder gangers. He'll give you the quest I Fought the Law. In the locked wall safe behind Eddie, you'll find a collection of meds.

Also in the building, on the second floor, you'll find two offices opposite Eddie's (aka the warden's) office, one of which will be locked with an "average" lock. In the unlocked office, you'll find a copy of Lying, Congressional Style (on a desk). In the locked office, you'll find lots of explosives and ammunition, including 50 .22LR Rounds. You'll need to kill or pickpocket Eddie to get the key to the locked office.

Note: Eddie will have several bodyguards in the building, and they'll notice if you're hated by the powder gangers, even if you're in disguise. So stay out of the administration building unless you're on good terms with the powder gangers -- or unless you want to start a pretty tough fight with Eddie and the bodyguards.

5 - Cell Block A

In one of the cells in the cell block, you'll find a grenade box, a mine box, two armor crates, and a Patriot's Cookbook.

6 - Cell Block B

In this cell block, you'll meet a trader named Carter, who will have a few things for sale. If you pickpocket Carter, then you'll be able to pick up the Cell Block B Key, which will get you into a locked cell where you'll find Schematics - Powder Charge (on a bunkbed).
