Baldur's Gate (Central)

Did we miss anything in this location? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

This part of the city is effectively the center of Baldur's Gate. A large market place occupies the section and you'll find a lot of commoners around it. There are also a good number of estates around. The market place was the first sight of the travelers who came to the Gate before the second protection wall was erected. There are no shops in this area but there is a good tavern.

1- HOUSE:

You can loot this house for a Dagger +1 and a bit of gold. Be careful as the guards will be summoned.

2- HOUSE:

There is a Potion of Mirrored Eyes on the first floor of this house. The guards will be summoned if you take it.

3- DABRON SASHENSTAR:

You'll meet Dabron around this spot if you killed his brother Aldeth back in the Cloakwood forest. He is angry at you and you'll have to fight him. He is worth a good 1200 Exp. and carries some loot: Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy, Morning Star +1 and Plate Mail. He is not terribly hard and your best course of action is to force him to use his morning star(get in melee fight with him) since his crossbow can do quite some damage.

4- LOTHANDER:

You'll meet Lothander around this spot if you actually talked with Marek in the North-Eastern part of Baldur's Gate. He tells you how Marek has placed a magic poison in your food while you were sleeping and that you have 10 days left to live(quite a short time, don't you think?). Fortunately, he is able to help you if in turn you help him. He wants you to remove the geas which was placed on him by Marek and which forces him to obey his orders. Your first step is to talk with the diviner at location (5) in order to discover how to cure Lothander. He then tells you to meet him at the Blade and Stars (South-Eastern part of BG) once you have the cure.

5- THE FORTUNE TELLER:

Diviner: You'll have to pay him 50 gp. to answer your questions. In fact, he can only answer 1 question per day, so choose carefully. Fortunately, I have all the answers for you here, so just ask him who has the power to cure Lothander of his geas, and he'll answer that it is the High Priestess Jalantha Mistmyr at the Water Queen's House (see Southern part of BG). The answers to the rest of the questions are the following (bet you could have found them yourself…):
1- Who is the leader of the Iron Throne: Rieltar Costak
2- What is on the agenda of the Iron Throne: making money.
3- Who has the power to remove Lothander's geas: Jalantha Mistmyr.
4- Who is the richest man in BG and where does he keep his money: Duke Entar Silvershield (North-Western part of BG); the money is in his bedroom.

6, 7- GAMBLING TENTS:

Gamesmen (craps): You win about 50% of the time at their game so it is worth trying for fun, although you can't bet more than 2 gp. at the time.

Gamesmen (roulette): You win about 0/10 times at their game, so not really worth trying.

Gamesmen (big wheel): You also win about 0/10 times at their game, so don't bother.

8- DRAKON TAVERN:

Bartender:
Rooms: the 4 types of rooms are available.
Shop: No.
Drinks: Yes.
Steal: No.

9- FELONIUS GIST'S MANOR:

Felonius Gist: The owner of the manor. If you threaten to break his neck he lets you look around without calling the guards.

Vail and his party: There are actually 5 of them: Vail and another melee fighter, 2 archers and a mage. If you are on Degrodel's quest, you can turn Vail and his party to flesh for 500 Exp. and question them on the location of the Helm of Balduran. Vail refuses to tell you where it is but gives you a scroll containing some hints. The Helm of Balduran is in the Helm and Cloak inn, in the North-Western part of Baldur's Gate(check that section for more details) and the Cloak of Balduran is in the Undercellar on Quenash, Vail's lover. You can access the Undercellar from the sewers or the Blushing Mermaid in the North-Eastern part of Baldur's Gate(see that section for more details). After the conversation you can either let Vail and his party go or fight them for 5800 Exp., 2 Plate Mails, 28 Arrows of Ice, 5 Arrows of Piercing, 20 Arrows +1, 2 Potions of Healing and a Mage Robe of Electrical Resistance.

10- POULTRY STORE:

About 20 rabid chickens will attack you in this store. They are worth a big 1 Exp. each! There is nothing worth stealing around.

11- OBERAN'S ESTATE:

Oberan is a mage who allowed his good friend Shandolar to keep the 3 ingredients of the Halruaan Skyship in his estate. If you are on Alatos' quest you'll have to steal them and bring them to him. The ingredients are guarded on the 3rd floor by Shandolar's 3 daughters(although they are in a cupboard, not on the daughters). Note that the way to deal with this quest will influence Shandolar's reaction when you meet him in Ulgoth Beard (ToSC).

1st Floor:

Bookcase: There is a Clairvoyance scroll and another Cursed Scroll on one of the shelves. Be careful not to be heard by the servants of the house (the servants will exit the area once you have talked with them, but not the cook and the fat housekeeper).

2nd Floor:

Bookcase: There are 3 scrolls in the library: Non-Detection, Web and Identify.

Oberan: He is so exited because the Grand Duke Liia Jannath will come at his estate that he mistakes you for some new servants and lets you pass.

3rd Floor:

Shandolar's 3 daughters are on this floor. There are 2 ways of dealing with the situation but the final result will be the same when you go back to Alatos since Resar, the Halruaan mage, will want to kill you anyway.

Clean way: Send in a thief who has drank a Potion of Invisibility on this floor. Sneak past the daughters in the southern room, steal the 3 ingredients(Helshara's Artifact Fragment, Delorna's Statue, Delorna's Spellbook) and the gold from the cupboard, hide in shadows or drink a second Potion of Invisibility and come back downstairs unseen…

Bloody way: Go upstairs with your whole party. Read the useless conversation of the daughters and then kill them. Helshara is worth 975 Exp., Ithmeera is worth 650 Exp. and Delorna is worth 1400 Exp. They have some good loot on them: Mage Robe of Electrical Resistance, Mage robe of Fire Resistance, Angel Skin Ring(quest item for South-Western part of BG), Necklace of Missiles, Traveler's Robe, Potion of Perception and Scroll of Protection from Fire. Then go into the southern room, pick up the 3 ingredients and the 564 gp. and go to see Alatos at the guild. Don't kill the servant on this level else you'll lose reputation points.

12- WARNING: ENTERING THIS HOUSE WILL CRASH YOUR GAME:

The guys at Bioware forgot to put an interior for this house and when you access it the game crashes. If anybody knows of a way to fix this problem, please drop us a line. Thanks in advance.

13- HOUSE:

Nadine: A halfling who asks you to bring an Amulet of Protection +1 to her son Euric, who can be found in the South-Eastern part of Baldur's Gate. You get 1100 Exp. for bringing him the amulet and if you come back to Nadine she gives you a further 400 Exp., +1 Reputation and a Necklace of Missiles.

14- LADY HANNAH:

Tells you how the local mage Ragefast has acquired a nymph and keeps her captive, as his personal slave. Ragefast's laboratory can be found in the Western part of Baldur's Gate.
