Background

During the assignment Overlord, you learned that you'll need to override the lockdown at Vulcan Station in order to open up the way into Atlas Station. You'll be able to access Vulcan Station via your Hammerhead. The game will indicate the distance to the closest station, and even show you arrows so you won't get lost. Starting from Hermes Station, you'll find Vulcan Station to the left and Prometheus Station to the right. When you enter the Vulcan Station portion of the map, you'll trigger the assignment.

Note: While exploring the planet looking for stations, you might come across six Cerberus data packets. Five of these packets should be easy to find -- they'll be at man-made outposts usually guarded by turrets -- but one of them will be guarded by heavy mechs under the rocky bridge leading to Vulcan Station. If you can collect all six data packets, then you'll gain the "Data Hound" achievement.

Walkthrough

You'll begin the assignment inside the Hammerhead, and you'll have to fly to Vulcan Station. This will involve using a vent to reach the top of a garage, jumping from the garage to a cave, defeating a turret, hopping over islands of debris in a lava river, and then using another vent to reach a sub-station. If you die during this sequence, then you'll have to start over. There isn't any way to save while you're in the Hammerhead.

Inside the sub-station, you'll have to make your way from the docking bay to a lab, fighting a few security mechs along the way. Inside the lab you'll find a valve control, and hacking it will turn on a vent outside the sub-station. You'll then be able to use the vent with the Hammerhead to reach a ravine above the sub-station, and continue on in the assignment.

Inside the ravine you'll encounter another turret, and then you'll come to another debris-filled lava river. This river will be a little more difficult to cross than the last one, because you'll have to travel down the river a ways as well as cross it. Just be quick with your jumps. If you stay too long on a piece of debris, then your weight will push it into the lava, disintegrating it.

Past the second lava river you'll come to a third and final lava river. This time you'll have to travel upstream along the river as well as cross it. But when you complete the trip, you'll finally be at Vulcan Station.

Inside Vulcan Station, you'll discover that the facility is in bad shape. At Catwalk 1, you'll have to blow up an explosive container to clear the way to the Lower Platform. At Catwalk 2, you'll have to hack a terminal to turn off a vent so you can reach a datapad to the east.

When you reach the Lower Platform, you'll be attacked by several mechs and drones. Shooting the explosive containers in the area will probably help you in these battles. You'll then need to climb a Pipe to the Upper Platform, where you'll be attacked by even more mechs, including a heavy mech. But when you enter the Control Room, you'll automatically override the lockdown and complete the assignment, and you'll be returned to the Hammerhead outside Vulcan Station.

"Commander, that was a daring piece of work. Vulcan Station was a success."
