The Temple of Efferd

Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

The Temple of Efferd is a quest that progresses along with the main story. It is opened first after defeating the Kraken Newt in The Toll is Not Enough, though you should wait a few levels before you go exploring following that quest, and can not close until you've discovered the pirate's hideout and later defeated the Water Dragon.

1 - Brother Emmeran

Brother Emmeran is available as soon as the Thalaria is available to you. He is a merchant that sells several rare items, like the Carapace Shoulder Plate, Good Geode's Robes and the River Mussel Amulet.

For geodes, he's also a trainer who can teach you all the geode spells: Body of Ore, Body of Sumu, Forces of Nature, Protection of Earth, Strength of Earth and Sumu's Shield.

2 - Door to Temple of Efferd

When you return from The Toll is Not Enough with the strange artifact taken from the Kraken Newt, Brother Emmeran will use it to open this door, closing the quest Brother Emmeran and opening the Temple of Efferd quest.

3 - Transversalis Ring

There are several transversalis rings spread through the dungeon. Each one brings you back to this one, at the entrance, and the one at the entrance brings you to the furthest one you've touched.

4 - Into the Caverns

The Temple of Efferd is a long, fairly high-level slog through trash mobs of morfu and giant crabs. You will also find large amounts of blood moss in the caves. Occasionally you'll have to clear out some giant crab eggs to proceed. Otherwise, there's nothing of interest until you hit #5.

5 - Mosaic Puzzle

There is a mosaic puzzle on the floor. Simply solve it to show the image of a water nymph. To solve it, from the start, touch the stones in the following order:
4-12-8-6-1-7-12-8-6
1-11-2-5-13-7-6-10-3-1
9-2-5-13-11-9-2-14-1-2
14-5-9-14-10-6-7-11-14
10-6-7-11-15
Thanks to Borbarad.

There is a transversalis point straight across the puzzle. When you've solved it as above you'll notice one piece is missing. The water dragon has this piece. When you return with it, it will automatically be slotted in, opening the way and netting you 50AP.

6 - Treasure Chests

Two locked chests, containing: River Mussel Amulet, 12x Rare Coin, 40x Old Bronze Coin, 169x River Stone, Trident, Sun Sphere, the Highlord's Mask.

7 - Crab Beast

The crab beast poses the final challenge of the temple, the crab monster. He locks you into the fight at the beggining by collapsing the entrance. He is a hard one, with 500VI and high RS and fairly high damage. He is highly susceptible to burn and bleeding so it is advisable to use such attack.

At the beginning of the fight two giant crabs appear to help him. Then, eight morfu appear when he is down to 66% of his health, then three giant crabs and six morfu when he's down to 33% of his health. When he is down to 10% of his health he is defeated and the monsters aiding him disappear, so while you probably need to take out the first two groups, it might be advisable to ignore the final group to push the crab monster down to 10%. Saving up AE and ED for this final rush is a good idea.

Defeating him nets you 200AP, a Geode's Improved Staff, and you can loot a Ring of Life and Ring of Magical Power from the crab beast. Brother Emmeran explains this beast was his brother, consumed by rage and taking on this form. He removes the barrier to allow you to leave. This closes the Temple of Efferd quest.
