MatrixGate has conducted an interview with Monolith's Toby Ragaini, asking the lead designer several questions about The Matrix Online. An excerpt to follow:
Q: When did the decision not to include the outside world occur and how do you think this has affected the game?

A: Once again, the brothers made the call here. It was felt that the drama and turmoil of the real world had been concluded in Revolutions. The peace was in effect and the siege of Zion was over.

The tension was now in the Matrix itself, and how the various groups dealt with the terms of the truce and continued to explore the nature of man and machine.
