1 - Arrival
You'll enter the fortress at this location, with Greater Shadows staged all over the place. They are fairly powerful, but are worth 10,000 experience points for every one you kill.
2 - Fortress Clock
Read the clock here to see a note from yourself, which will teach you to visit each of the cannons to gain further entrance into the Fortress.
3 - First Cannon
Click on this first cannon needed to open the portal at area #7. After you've activated it, you'll witness a cinematic sequence of one of your party members being killed by the Transcendent One.
4 - Second Cannon
Click on the second cannon needed to open the portal at area #7. Once again, you'll witness a cinematic sequence of one of your party members being killed by the Transcendent One.
5 - Third Cannon
Click on the third cannon needed to open the portal at area #7. Once again, you'll witness a cinematic sequence of one of your party members being killed by the Transcendent One.
6 - Fourth Cannon
Click on the fourth cannon to finally open the portal at area #7. Once again, you'll witness a cinematic sequence of one of your party members being killed by the Transcendent One.
7 - Portal
Once you have clicked all four cannons at areas #3, #4, #5, and #6, a portal to the Trial of Impulse will open here.
