Alpha Protocol Reviews

We kick off the new week with yet another round-up of Alpha Protocol reviews, starting with a score of 6.4/10 from Digital Chumps:
Alpha Protocol had so much potential. It had all the elements planned out perfect to make this a great game. Regretfully, it seemed like the game didn't get enough time to finish up as what you get feels like three-fourth of what was planned. Still the story is strong with this one and it may interest you enough to make you look beyond the game's faults.

TweakTown gives it a 66%:
Alpha Protocol is one of those ugly ducklings that come around every so often. If you can look past the many problems with the game, you will find a golden goose that will entertain you. However, with this in mind only RPG fans and fans of James Bond style espionage should apply, until at least it hits the bargain bins sometime later.

Xbox360Achievements.org gives it a 70/100:
Buried beneath the poor shooter mechanics, Alpha Protocol does exactly what it says on the box, and that's make choice your weapon. With a great dialogue mechanic and more choice than your local Tesco megastore, the title is ultimately letdown in everywhere but these disciplines. A title that true RPG aficionados may treasure, but everyone else best steer clear. A cult hit if ever there was one, and one that I truly enjoyed.

Platform Nation doesn't give it a score:
Taking everything into account, I would highly recommend buying Alpha Protocol to anyone who believes that story and interaction should come first in a game. If you want the best graphics and amazing gameplay, you're probably already playing Modern Warfare 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, or Mass Effect 2, so this would probably be a game to take for a weekend spin from Gamefly, just to see if the story and dialogue is enough to warrant a purchase.

Despite all this though, all the problems and the shortcoming and the niggling sources of frustration, I like this game. I don't like it for what it could have been, I like it for what it is: a compelling spy story with twists, turns and likeable characters. And Nolan North isn't the protagonist, thank God. Had I played the game as primarily a gunslinger then, I concede, it may have left a sour taste, but the stealth was so rewarding, when I wasn't ruining it with my cack-handed idiocy, that the utter failure of a pistol wasn't too much of an issue.

PS3 Attitude remains scoreless, as well:
You shouldn't go buy Alpha Protocol until is appears in the bargain bin at less than the price of a round of drinks, but we do urge you to splurge a few coins on renting it if you enjoy RPGs, as a complete play-through will only take you about 5-7 hours.
