Deus Ex: HR is primarly a first person shooter, but does switch to a third person viewpoint when utilizing the cover system and performing close quarters instant-kill moves. Set in the year 2027, which is 25 years before the first Deus Ex game, mechanical augmentation are the current state-of-the-art technology that main character Adam Jensen utilizes. The tech is split into four categories: Social, Technology, Combat, and Stealth. The first two games utilized nanotech, but creating a prequel presented new gameplay opportunities that the Eidos-Montreal was eager to work with.
