Mass Effect 2 Vanguard Interview, Trailer, and Screenshots

The latest Mass Effect 2 class to be spotlighted by IGN is the Vanguard, and they've doled out the usual interview with lead combat designer Christina Norman, a brand new trailer, and a couple of screenshots to keep us interested.
IGN: Which paths of specialization can the Vanguard take?

Christina Norman: With five powers, and two unique evolved versions of each power, there are many specialization options for your vanguard.

Most vanguard will want to max their charge power. Ranking up charge increases the strength of your impact and barrier boost. This is vital to surviving a charge. When you max charge, you get to choose to evolve it into either Heavy Charge or Area Charge.

Area Charge lets you send multiple enemies flying. This is a big advantage when you're facing clusters of enemies like husks, or even two enemies taking cover near each other.

Heavy Charge slows time when you impact. This gives you time to shoot your target while he's flying back, ensuring his demise. Heavy charge also increases your survivability by further boosting impact and barrier strength.

Another good choice to maximize is the your unique class power, Assault Mastery. Points in Assault Mastery boosts your health, weapon damage, and power recharge time. It also gives you a negotiation bonus letting you access special paragon and renegade conversation options. You can evolve Assault Mastery to become either a Destroyer or a Champion.

Destroyers receive an additional boost to power and weapon damage. This helps you get those essential one-shot kills that are vital to surviving a charge.

Champions receive a bonus to power recharge time and duration, as well as improved negotiation ability. This lets Champions charge more often, and also helps them talk their way out of difficult situations.

This is only scratching the surface of vanguard customization. Other popular specializations include focusing on ammo powers, to increase your offensive capabilities after you charge, or improving biotics to give you additional ranged versatility.
