Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim Preview

The editors at IGN spent some time with Paradox Interactive's Majesty sequel at last week's GDC, and have since shared their impressions with us.
The idea in Majesty 2 is that you run a kingdom infested with monsters. To deal with these monsters, you need heroes. But instead of recruiting them directly, you need to construct the economy that makes heroes welcome and then supports them with upgrades. This means stuff like guilds and shops. You then put bounties on monsters, and this entices wandering heroes to come and settle in your kingdom and go to work killing monsters and destroying their lairs.

Your resource is gold, which you generate through the economy, but you can also unleash tax collectors to get a cut of the heroes' purse if they get too fat. In Majesty 2, you'll be able to build trade posts in certain parts of the map; these posts will send caravans to your marketplace, which helps generate revenue. But you'll need to defend the roads so monsters don't ambush caravans.
