Wizard101 Minute View

RPGVault dotted down some quick thoughts about KingsIsle's recently released Wizard101.
The lighthearted, humorous nature of the game is unusual, and seems likely to help foster broad appeal. The stylish, colorful art direction complements this feeling exceptionally well. The combat system is turn-based, which places the emphasis on strategy over reflexes or connection speed. It's also user-friendly in that passersby can jump in to assist without kill-stealing or negatively affecting the rewards. The spell animations are varied and fun. The controls are pretty straightforward, and the overall learning curve is gentle enough not to trouble even fairly casual players. The mini-games, of which there are several, make it easy to take a break without leaving the world. The system requirements are very forgiving, and should allow Wizard101 to run on most families' second and third PCs.
