Heroes of Might and Magic V Reviews

A trio of fairly positive reviews for Ubisoft and Nival's Heroes of Might and Magic V kick off the new week. The first is at Eurogamer with an overall score of 8/10:
HOMMV was the best-selling UK PC game in the week of its release; admittedly, it was up against some pitiful competition (it was only 33rd in the multiformat chart) but its refreshing length and variety of campaign, and depth of gameplay make you understand why it deserved even that paltry accolade. It's not a great leap forward for gaming; but in terms of reassurance and welcome traditionalism, it's a small step for cosiness.

The second is at Jolt Online Gaming with an overall score of 8.2/10:
Kudos to the developers for not taking an established franchise and breaking it by trying to do something clever. Heroes of Might and Magic V is a welcome return to form for one of our oldest gaming brands, and bodes well for the future as it isn't feeling tired or over familiar yet. I foresee many long nights ahead for anyone who installs this.

And the third is at TotalVideoGames with an overall score of 7/10:
It might be the fifth instalment in the Heroes saga, but with Ubisoft's decision to create a new world to house the Might & Magic series from now on, there's a definite attempt to attract a new audience. How successful it will be is something entirely different however, and it has to be said that whilst the franchise will probably retain its rather niche hardcore it's difficult to see a surge of gamers rushing to join in. For fans of the series Nival has achieved the ultimate courtesy in that HOMMV retains that same spirit of its 3DO predecessors, but with a visual upgrade, and should put this revamped franchise in good stead for future instalments.
