The Bard's Tale Reviews

A pair of reviews for inXile's The Bard's Tale were posted up this weekend - one mediocre and the other quite positive. The first is at TeamXbox with an overall score of 7.7/10:
Holding The Bard's Tale in such high regard from years past, I had very high hopes for the next-gen iteration. While my hopes were definitely satisfied in regards to the story and approach of the title, the same can't be said for the overall gameplay. A sluggish and repetitive combat system and overly simplistic RPG elements leave The Bard's Tale wondering exactly what type of game it is. It does have plenty of hilarious moments, but ironically many of the aspects that the game pokes fun at in relation to other RPGs, it suffers from as well. You will get plenty of hours in (around 20 or so), but this is strictly a single-player adventure with little reason to play through again. Fans of the Baldur's Gate series and of the action RPG genre in general will certainly want to pick up The Bard's Tale, no questions asked. Those gamers who were sitting on the fence might want to hit the rental store before committing their $50.

And the second is at GamersInfo with no overall score:
To say I was engrossed in this game is an understatement. I've hours left yet to play and yet I've put days (my poor kids) into it already. The game's greatest strength may be its dialogue and actors but its graphics, game play, combat and storyline all combine to make an immersive engrossing world - the world of the Bard, where I will soon return!
