EXPLORE LIKE NEVER BEFORE WITH ONE WASTELAND

One Wasteland is on its way to Fallout 76 in an update next month, and it’s going to bring significant improvements to your encounters with creatures throughout Appalachia. We’ve shared the basics of One Wasteland in previous articles, but we’d like to go into more depth today to discuss how this system will bring about positive changes for low and high level characters alike as they explore, adventure with friends, join events, loot creatures, and more.

WHAT IS ONE WASTELAND?

At its core, One Wasteland allows enemy creature levels to adjust dynamically so that they better match each player they encounter. If multiple players all come across the same enemy at the same time, its level will simultaneously rise for the higher-level players and drop for the lower-level players.

Let’s imagine you are playing as a level 300 character, and you decide to head to West Tek with a friend who is level 30. Even though you will both see the exact same Super Mutants at that location, their levels will automatically appear higher to you and lower to your friend so that they are more appropriate to your individual characters. In addition to their levels, the Super Mutants’ damage, health, and resistances, as well as the loot they drop and the XP they award, will also better match each player. This means that your level 30 friend can now meaningfully contribute to the fight in this formerly high-level location, which was not possible before. You will also earn more XP per kill than before, since these Super Mutants previously could not spawn at such high levels. While creatures will still have minimum and maximum levels, One Wasteland will bring much more flexibility to players’ combat encounters going forward.

BETTER EXPERIENCES FOR EVERYONE

One of our favorite aspects of One Wasteland is that it creates opportunities for characters of all levels to take part in more activities throughout Appalachia, whether alone or with friends. The dynamic level adjustments will make it much easier to adventure anywhere you’d like with your pals, even if there’s a level gap between you. It will also smooth out the early game for newer characters who get the itch to explore the world beyond the bounds of The Forest.

Events will become more approachable for everyone, as well. For example, a lower-level character will now be able to take more active role at events like Encryptid, A Colossal Problem, and Scorched Earth. Those events will still be tough for them, but they can have a bigger impact than before without compromising the difficulty for others. Likewise, higher-level characters will get max-level loot from creatures like the Legendary Megasloth during Fasnacht and the Mole Miners at Uranium Fever. We also feel that high-level characters will have more reasons to revisit previously lower-level regions due to the added XP and max-level loot from creatures there.

Overall, we feel that One Wasteland will make many aspects of the game more accessible to a wider variety of players, and we can’t wait to get it into your hands next month.
