DLC Quest: Sierra Madre Grand Opening!
Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Background

You'll receive this quest shortly after downloading and installing the Dead Money DLC. The DLC is intended for high level (20+) characters.

Walkthrough

When you trigger the quest, you'll start receiving the Sierra Madre Broadcast channel on your radio. When you listen to this channel, you'll hear an invitation to the grand opening of the Sierra Madre Casino: "Come to a place where wealth, excitement and intrigue await around every corner." Your map pointer will then indicate that you should travel to the Abandoned BoS Bunker located just to the south of Camp Forlorn Hope.

Inside the bunker, you'll find a radio playing the invitation, but when you approach it, you'll get gassed and fall unconscious, and any companions with you will return to their starting locations. When you eventually wake up, you'll find yourself in the Villa -- without your equipment (you'll get it back after completing the DLC) -- and you'll be contacted by Father Elijah. He'll tell you a few things of importance:
  • Bomb collar. Elijah will tell you that he has control of the Dead Money Collar around your neck, and that if you don't follow his commands, then he'll blow your head off (and he's not kidding; if you refuse to work with him, then he'll trigger the collar, and you'll have to reload your game).

  • Radios. Elijah will tell you that certain radios and speakers can set off your collar -- after several seconds during which your collar will beep -- and that you'll either need to avoid them or destroy them. Some speakers (the red glowing ones) can't be destroyed.

  • Cloud. Elijah will tell you that some parts of the casino grounds are contaminated with a red Cloud, and that if you stand in it you'll take damage. There isn't any way to avoid the Cloud other than just to move through it as quickly as possible.

  • Holograms. Elijah will tell you that the security forces in the casino are holograms, and that you'll only be able to defeat them by finding and destroying their emitters (which look like light blue lights). If a hologram spots you, then it will switch from blue to yellow to red, and then shoot you. Holograms can do serious damage, so you'll need to be careful with them.

  • Ghosts. Elijah will tell you that the residents of the casino -- called ghosts -- can only be killed by decapitating them or dismembering their limbs. If you fail to do this, then after "killing" them, they'll get back up at full health and attack you again. Fortunately, you can attack the ghosts with a melee weapon while they're down, and dismember them that way.
Finally, Elijah will give you your orders. He'll tell you to assemble a team so you can trigger the "Gala Event" and break into the casino. This will result in you receiving three quests: Find Collar 8, Find Collar 12, and Find Collar 14. It's best to complete Find Collar 8 first, since it will take you to the police station where you'll find a bed that you can sleep on.

At the end of the conversation, Elijah will give you a Holorifile (and a small amount of bulk ammunition), and you'll be on your own. Before rushing off to complete Elijah's quests, it's a good idea to explore the Villa and pick up as much useful equipment as possible. Early in the DLC you'll need every scrap of food that you can find so you can heal yourself; later, you'll be able to buy Stimpaks from the vending machines, and your life will be easier. You should also keep an eye out for Dean's Secret Stashes (each one marked by a white hand), since they'll always provide you with good loot.
