Location: Nellis Air Force Base

Did we miss anything in this section? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

Overview

If you approach Nellis Air Force Base from the road, then just past Fields' Shack you'll run into a gambler named George. He'll tell you that the "artillery-slingin' grenade-lobbin' odd-jobs" -- aka the Boomers -- who live in the base blow up anybody who gets too close to them, and he'll make you a wager. If you pay him 300 caps (or only 200 caps with Barter 40), then he'll tell you how to approach the base safely, and if you make it there and return to him, then he'll double your money. If you agree to this wager, then you'll receive the note "Nellis Artillery Timing Details."

Note: When you eventually return to George, he'll pay up as promised, but if you pass a Speech 60 check, then he'll give you 700 caps instead of 400/600.

George's note will give you two options: running through the destroyed town just outside the base, or using the train tunnel to the south (located between Raul's Shack and the Brotherhood of Steel Safehouse). If you choose the former approach, then you should stick to the western wall of the canyon and make a beeline for the fence surrounding the base. The Boomers won't shoot at you when you're by the fence, and so reaching it will give you an easy route to the front gate. If you choose the latter approach, then you'll need to be able to pick open a pair of "very hard" locks, and you'll have to deal with some feral ghouls and traps.

When you reach the front gate (Exit W), you'll meet up with Master-at-Arms Raquel, who will send you to speak with Mother Pearl (#4). Mother Pearl will give you permission to wander around the base, and she'll give you the quest Volare, which will involve you helping out the Boomers and gaining fame with them. You can also receive the quests Ant Misbehavin', Sunshine Boogie, and Young Hearts at the base.

1 - Women's Barracks

This is where half of the women sleep. Inside, you'll find a first aid box.

2 - Men's Barracks

This is where most of the men sleep. Inside, you'll find three gun cabinets (likely containing at least two sets of Combat Armor plus more), two first aid boxes, and a Patriot's Cookbook (on one of the shelves).

3 - Children's Barracks

This is where the Mini Boomers sleep. Inside, you'll find some toys, plus a first aid box and a copy of Today's Physician (in an end table).

If you have Charisma 7, then when you talk to the Mini Boomers, you'll be able to play along with their games and earn Boomer fame. For extra fame, you can give them a Rocket Souvenir or a Dino Toy instead. Also, a Mini Boomer named Lindsay will ask you to look for her teddy bear Mister Cuddles. You'll find Mister Cuddles in the hangar (#12). If you give the teddy bear to Lindsay, then you'll gain 20 xp and Boomer fame. If you lie to Lindsay and tell her that Mister Cuddles is dead (this requires Speech 60), then you'll lose karma and gain Boomer infamy.

4 - Pearl's Barracks

This is where you'll meet Mother Pearl, who is involved in the quests Volare and Young Hearts. Inside, you'll find two first aid boxes, Col. Blackwell's Key and an Inventory Transfer Order (in a filing cabinet), a Grenade Rifle and some 40mm Grenades (in a shelf), a copy of Duck and Cover (in the same shelf), and a cabinet probably containing Combat Armor (in the bathroom). Col. Blackwell's Key will allow you to unlock a "very hard" gun case in the Vault 34 armory.

5 - Women's Barracks

This is where the other half of the women sleep. Inside, you'll find a first aid box and four gun cabinets likely containing at least two sets of Combat Armor.

6 - Schoolhouse

Inside the schoolhouse you'll find a first aid box and six skill magazines (in or on the "very easy" desk).

7 - Medical Station

This is where you'll meet Argyll (all the time). If you pass a Medicine 40 or Speech 35 check, then Argyll will allow you to treat his three patients, which will require Medicine 40-60. Each patient you help will earn you Boomer fame.

8 - Loyal's House

This is where you'll meet Loyal (at night). He's involved in the quests Ant Misbehavin', Old School Ghoul, Sunshine Boogie, and Volare. Inside the house you'll find two gun cabinets likely containing Combat Armor, a copy of Dean's Electronics (on the counter), and five Bobby Pins (on the shelf).

9 - Workshop

Inside the workshop, you'll find a workbench, a reloading bench, a copy of Fixin' Things (on a counter), and the Howitzer Firing Mechanism (in a gun cabinet). You'll need the Howitzer Firing Mechanism for the quest I Hear You Knocking.

10 - Museum

This is where you'll meet Pete (all the time). If you listen to his presentation, and if you ask him questions afterwards, then you'll gain Boomer fame. Inside the museum, you'll find a copy of La Fantoma (on the bed), copies of Tales of Chivalrie and the Patriot's Cookbook (in the shelf above the bed), and a Snow Globe - Nellis AFB (on the table by the door).

11 - Biodiesel Refinery

You'll find lots of Maize in the crates here.

12 - Hangar

This hangar is where the Boomers are trying to put together a B-29 bomber. If you search around the area, then you'll find four first aid boxes (in the shelves), four ammunition boxes and a grenade box (near the western entrance), lots of metal boxes, tool boxes, and crates that you can loot for crafting supplies, and Mister Cuddles (on the ground by some big green crates west of the bomber). You can give Mister Cuddles to Lindsay for Boomer fame (see #3).

Also in the hangar you'll meet Jack (all the time) and Loyal (during the day). Jack will accept Scrap Metal from you, and he'll reward you with Boomer fame. If you have the Black Widow perk or the Confirmed Bachelor perk or Speech 35, then Jack will also give you the quest Young Hearts. For more information about Loyal, see his house entry (#8).

13 - Mess Hall & Munitions Storage

In this building you'll find two Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps (on a table in the dining area); a work bench, a reloading bench, two first aid boxes, and a Weapon Repair Kit (in the crafting area); and a gun cabinet likely containing Combat Armor (in the sleeping area next to the kitchen). You'll also meet a Boomer Munitions Manager (on the western side of the building), who will sell you guns and ammunition, and a Boomer Chef (in the kitchen), who will sell you some food and drink items.

14 - Watch Post

You'll usually find Raquel sitting here (during the day). She's involved in the quest Ant Misbehavin'. After completing Raquel's quest, you'll be able to donate Missiles to her for Boomer fame.

15 - Generator Building

You'll need the Nellis Generator Key to enter this building. You'll get it from Raquel (#14) when she gives you the quest Ant Misbehavin'. Inside the building, you'll find lots of ammunition and ammunition boxes, including two Mini Nukes (in the shelves near the northern entrance); a dozen 40mm Grenades and the unique weapon Thump-Thump (next to a skeleton in the southeastern part of the building); and a couple of Boomer corpses with Boomer Flightsuits (near the southern entrance).
