Dante will only join your party if you’re working on the taxes quest for King Praetor of Dernholm. Then he’ll join you in hopes of getting back into the king’s good graces. If you have him in your party when you deliver the taxes to Praetor, then you’ll either be able to speak up for him (and lose him) or say nothing (and keep him in your party).
