None of the core problems have been fixed then, but the more minor changes do leave us more optimistic for the future. A true DeathSpank 2 may well prove to be a considerably more interesting prospect than the first two outings.
UGO gives it a "B":
It's commendable that Hothead Games has managed to get the second episode of DeathSpank's story out so quickly after the first, but that has obviously come at the expense of any big improvements over the first one. There's a bit more quest variety, but that's really about it in terms of changes. So, if you're itching to get your hands on more DeathSpank, Thongs of Virtue is more of the same, in the best way possible. It's just as well written and silly as its predecessor with just as much charm. But if you were annoyed by the problems that the DeathSpank's first adventure had, it probably won't convert you.

Overall, DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue is a very solid game but it's nothing we haven't seen before. It's still a fun experience but there is little that sets this release apart from being merely a DeathSpank 1.5. The addition of ranged weapons and more diversity in quests is nice but it might not be enough for some gamers to drop another $15. If you loved the first DeathSpank it's worth checking out to get more action, but if you didn't or only kind of liked it there's nothing new here to draw you back in.

Of course, if you can only afford one DeathSpank, go with this one. Thongs of Virtue bears a familiar resemblance to its predecessor, but the inclusion of those aforementioned weapons makes the dungeon crawling a bit more enjoyable. As for DeathSpank's voice, well, you'll just have to deal with it.

Overall, the game is clever and somewhat unique. While it's not exactly a new idea and seems to borrow a few themes from previous releases (intentionally maybe?), it also has a bit of a twist to everything we've seen in the past. If it weren't for the humor, interesting/strange characters, upgradeable character, and the vibrant color in the game, I don't know that I could find much else redeeming about Deathspank.

Although DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue is basically more of the same, it's by no means repetitive with the exception of some of the music. The new era opens up a plethora of targets for parody, and the tweaks to the battle system's focus keep that fresh as well. All of that is backed up by good music, visuals, and an excellent cast. The problems that the original faced haven't been addressed, but they are few and not that big of a deal. All in all, DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue is likely to live up to the expectations of fans of the original, though newcomers will also have plenty to enjoy, and is quite a solid title overall.
