Dragon Age: Origins Witch Hunt DLC Reviews

Dragon Age: Origins' recently released endgame extension DLC Witch Hunt is the subject of a few reviews online, though none of them are particularly exuberant. Joystiq no score.
If you're importing your Grey Warden into Witch Hunt (the game will import a level 20 replacement from Orlais, otherwise), you'll be eager to see the consequences of decisions you made in the Origins campaign. Witch Hunt acknowledges these and even some from the Awakening expansion, but addresses the big questions so vaguely that it feels like the game's just trying to dodge the conversation. If you were hunting Morrigan for answers, you'll find she's about as enlightening as the fan discussion on the official BioWare forums.

It wouldn't feel like such a trick if there was more effort evident throughout the add-on. In your quest to locate Morrigan and a mysterious mirror, you'll battle through several locations, each and every one recycled from the main game or earlier DLC. An encounter with a frightening new creature was blunted by the reminder that I had fought a boss in the exact same spot before, in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Somebody should put up a warning sign or something -- Caution: Boss Fight Zone.

Overall there are mixed feelings when it comes to Witch Hunt. It does give the answer that many have been waiting for by showing players just what became of Morrigan after the events of Origins. On the other hand there seemed to be a lot of running around doing small tasks just for that tiny little bit of information and while Ariane was a tolerable companion Finn will get on your nerves fairly quickly. There just seemed to be quite a bit of runaround and the reward didn't quite live up to expectations, but in defense of the ending, it usually isn't wise to expect certain things from a game or its story.

What I didn't:

Location, location, location Yes, we've been to the Mage's Tower and the Deep Roads already, about a thousand times, so setting the first half of the DLC in those areas is BOOOORING. In fact the only new area is the location of the final battle with a new boss creature. It's appearance is arbitrary though and has little bearing on the search for Morrigan.
The conclusion simply put, it's shit. It feels like a tiny addendum to the main Origins story and doesn't add any conclusion, resolution or any particular gripping twist to stoke your fires for Dragon Age 2. It's just an unecessary extension of the Origin conclusion with 90 minutes of combat for filler.
