Hunted: The Demon's Forge Previews

Thanks to the GamesCom demonstration of Hunted: The Demon's Forge, we now have two more previews of inXile's co-op friendly dungeon crawler to read through.

GamePro:
'¢ Hunted is an action-RPG at its core, but features a few traits that are out of the ordinary for typical dungeon crawlers. The game puts a strong focus on cooperative play and multi-path exploration, and the combat is more akin to Gears of War than to Diablo. Additionally, Caddoc and E'lara, the game's two main characters, often take part in whimsical banter that is atypical for the genre.

'¢ The GamesCom demo put game journalists in control of the male warrior Caddoc. The demo starts roughly halfway through the game in an area called the Aquifer, and finds Caddoc and E'lara surrounded by demonic enemies. Dispatching the enemies was easy enough using a combination of light and heavy attacks with Caddoc, while the AI-controlled E'lara took turns buffing Caddoc or using long-range attacks. Armor and weapons slowly deteriorate, so luckily many of the fallen enemies dropped items Caddoc could equip.

And Softpedia:
It's straight forward enough but still frantic and engaging, especially when the cooperation between the players works, with E'lara protecting the flanks and occasionally throwing in a bit of magic while Caddoc keeps everybody occupied at the front.

Of course, a big part of the success of the game will depend on how the Artificial Intelligence of the non player character is implemented, for those situations when a gamer cannot find someone to play with and prefers to tackle the experience alone.
