Deus Ex: Human Revolution Previews

Some more impressions of Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution are up on the web, including this article on Siliconera that also provides a small amount of commentary from lead game designer Jean-Francois Dugas:
Later on in the game, Adam may run into the desk sergeant again in civilian clothes. After letting Adam into the building he lost his job and is upset with Adam. Again, you're not forced to fight. You can try to calm down the enraged desk sergeant with words.

Adam can also equip hacking augmentations. These enhancements let players access higher level devices and upload viruses that can capture nodes to reach a computer's registry. Once accessed, Adam can read e-mails and control cameras to scout out his surroundings.

From what we saw in the demo, the combat in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is going to seriously up the ante in terms of the sheer magnitude of combat possibilities. In one pivotal scene, we were able to watch as the main character smash through walls to snap the necks of unsuspecting baddies as well as perform ruthless cinematic takedown moves that didn't skimp on the gore. One of the initial worries I had about the takedown system is that with many titles using the same handful of takedowns can get repetitive and take the immersion level way down. However, we were assured by several members of the development team that the takedowns would be dynamically created and would be created depending on several variables unique to each situation.

During the demo we were also shown what the world of Deus Ex 3 would look like. The game will see the hero jet-setting around the globe to places like Detroit, Shanghai, and Montreal. However, since the game takes place in 2027, the world looks a lot different. We were able to watch some extensive gameplay in the Shanghai setting, and from the looks of it, overcrowding has become quite an issue. The cityscape is dingy, there are people everywhere, and even the "high-class" nightclub our character was charged with infiltrating had a dark and grimy feel to it.

Dues Ex: Human revolution is refreshing compared most computer games as the plot and characters will be the main focus of the game. There is a team of three writers for the story as well as some contractors that have been hired such as James Swallow. The writer of the first Deus Ex games, Sheldon Pacotti, is also overseeing aspects of the Dues Ex: Human Revolution story line. Hopefully this concentration on plot and characters will give Deus Ex: Human Revolution the depth and complexity it needs to truly be a title that belongs in the Deus Ex genre.

As with the other Deus Ex games dialogue in Deus Ex: Human Revolution will play an important role in the gameplay. Users will have to choose from several dialogue options and talk to certain individuals in order to obtain important information. In Deus Ex: Human Revolution it also pays to listen in on the conversations of other individuals as some of the time this information can be used later in the game. An interesting aspect of Deus Ex: Human Revolution compared to its predecessors is that you hacking will be done in real time. You won't enter a new window when you hack, so in Deus Ex: Human Revolution you will have to concentrate on hacking all the while looking around and keeping an eye out for guards.
