This month's "From the Vault" feature on the official Irrational Games website provides us with more scans from the original booklet the team used to pitch BioShock to potential publishers. Temperature mechanics, oxygen control machines, genotype upgrade machines (that would have allowed us to allocate points into armor, melee, cold resistance, and other stats), and the original "Serene Dawn" cultist backstory are all covered.
