Demon's Souls Reviews

A few more early reviews for Atlus' Demon's Souls are now available, and they're both pretty enthusiastic.

The Bitbag starts us off with a score of "S" (whatever that means):
It's incredible that Demon's Souls can be so unforgiving, yet it gives you an enormous amount of character customization, bloodstains to see the deaths of other players so that you don't repeat their mistakes, and of course, blue phantoms! The voice acting is pretty good and believable, as well as the environments that you journey across as you make your way to the Old One. Not to mention the background music, which is on a epic scale when you're fighting bosses! On the other hand, what drops this from a (SS) to an (S) is the fact that you can not use voice chat.

And then we move to NooBTooB, where no score is given:
I don't know what else to say about this game. It is a terribly difficult experience, and yet, when you finally defeat that boss that has killed you 10 times in a row, the sense of accomplishment is amazing. This game is an incredible source of both the sting of pain and the rush of triumph, all wrapped up in a fittingly dark, dreary world. A throwback to older games; what with it's lack of cut scenes, checkpoints, and continues, Demon's Souls is not for the faint of heart, but if you are up for the challenge, it is one of the most infuriating, engrossing, and masochistically enjoyable games of this generation. Thumbs up.

Before concluding at RPGamer for some firsthand impressions:
The game tosses you into the Nexus, a hub in which you can spend experience, buy items, and select which area you want to explore next. You will step you into an Archstone and then jump into the heart of the action. As you battle through you stages, you'll need to learn when to dodge, parry, roll, and run. As has been stated many times over, you will die, but the good thing is, you won't care. Of course, you're going to try not to die, but as death is natural part of life, it's also a natural part of Demon's Souls.
