Elven Legacy Previews

A trio of new hands-on previews for Paradox and 1C:Ino-Co's upcoming Elven Legacy have surfaced on the Internet.

First up is IGN UK:
While Elven Legacy is a deep and highly tactical war game, it also radiates the type of accessibility usually reserved for its more mainstream real-time cousins. Thanks to its clear and simple unit command interface each unit can be easily located, selected and moved, while a context-sensitive mouse icon clearly displays each unit's attacking options. The campaign structure is also shaping up well, slowly opening up into a series of branching missions, with multiple campaign endings dependent upon your choices.

Then we have D+PAD:
From our brief hands-on with Elven Legacy, it was fairly clear that strategy aficionados will be instantly at home with the workings of the game. The interface is easy to get to grips with, allowing most commands to be issued solely with a left click, and the HUD is laid out well, with the function of every button made obvious. Couple this with the extremely crisp and bright (yet fairly basic) graphics and you have a game which is designed to appeal to those who are generally put off by the complexity of the genre. There is a danger however, that Elven Legacy might seem a little too familiar to strategy fans and alienate a large percentage of its target audience.

And, finally, Gaming Evolution:
Unlike many of its peers, however, Elven Legacy does not concern itself with resource management or base-building. Elven Legacy is purely a tactical combat game with heavy RPG elements. There is a lot to consider when moving your units: their strength versus the enemy's, the type of terrain they're on, the type of attack they use, and the positions of your other units, as they can automatically provide support for one-another if positioned correctly. Your army is composed of regular units, such as various forms of infantry, archers, cavalry, and other, more interesting types such as air units and siege weapons, as well as hero units. As the name implies, hero units are characters central to the story, more powerful than regular units and possessing their own unique abilities and spells.
