Puzzle Quest: Galactrix Reviews

A half dozen more reviews of Infinite Interactive's Puzzle Quest follow-up have made their way to the Internet.

The first is at GameSpot with a score of 5.5/10:
Puzzle Quest: Galactrix should have been every bit as special as its predecessor, but whereas that game's randomness was only a mild irritation when it worked against you, here it ruins the game regardless of whether or not you're losing. It's true that not every battle is decided on luck, but enough of them are that frustration will set in before you're even close to investing the tens of hours that it takes to get through the story.

The second is at GameZone with a score of 8.6/10:
Few DS games are as interesting, as satisfying, or just as fun as Puzzle Quest: Galactrix. Whether you're a PQ fan or a newcomer to the series, this one will suck you in and keep you happily addicted for months to come.

The third is at GameTrailers with a score of 8.2/10:
Puzzle Quest Galactrix successfully reproduces the hybrid RPG/puzzle design that made the previous fantasy-themed Challenge of the Warlords so successful. Even if the overall package doesn't quite match the magic of the older game, this is still a great puzzle title that's tough to put down once you've picked it up. If you decide to sign up as a pilot trainee, the time you kill in space will be time well spent.

The fourth is at Thunderbolt with a score of 7/10:
Puzzle Quest: Galactrix for DS has all the makings of a great new entry into this now hugely popular adventure series. The story is compelling and well paced, the presentation is strong, and most importantly, the gameplay here trumps its predecessor in just about every way. But the basic foundation of the game touching is almost broken. Galactrix is still playable and still very addictive, but endless flubs on the game's part will inevitably cause your blood to boil. It's made all the more frustrating because the game itself is otherwise so well conceived.

The fifth is at GamingTrend with a score of 70%:
I know I've sounded pretty negative about PQ: G, and I think it is going to be a very polarizing game. There will be one camp that absolutely loves the added challenges and the new battle system, and another that find the endless Leap Gates and uninspired storyline to be too much to overcome. I probably fall somewhere in the middle. I don't think PQ: G is a bad game by any means, but I have a hard time recommending it. Maybe the charm of gem-matching-combat has simply worn thin, but I can't help but feel they could have done a better job balancing and improving this game. The bottom line is that I feel like I should be liking it a lot more than I am. I keep finding myself alternating between frustrated and bored - a combination I never thought I'd see from a Puzzle Quest game.

And the sixth is at Nintendo World Report with a score of 4.0/10:
The game offers two-player multi-card play, but it might be hard to find somebody with another copy of the game. Online battles would've been appreciated. The game would've been better as a stand-alone Bejeweled cart, with traditional game types like Endless, Time Attack, Vs., etc. As it stands, Galactrix adds way too much unnecessary clutter to the core puzzle game. I know that's kind of the point, but it just comes off as being unnecessary.
