Rise of the Argonauts Review

Gamepyre brings us a multi-page review of Liquid Entertainment's Rise of the Argonauts, and it's none too positive, giving it a 68/100.
I've played some terrible games when it comes to gameplay and controls, and while Rise of the Argonauts is not terrible it most certainly is bad.

There are two ways to play Rise of the Argonauts; with a keyboard and mouse or with a game controller such as the Xbox360 controller for Windows. Either way you go the gameplay and the controls are both good and bad.

The good aspect of the controls is that the way exactly how the programmers intended for them to work. Movement works great, camera controls work equally good. The buttons respond timely and even if you take the default controls you should get accustomed to the way the this game handles in no time whatsoever.

The problem with the gameplay and the controls is that Rise of the Argonauts was designed as a complete button masher game. While there is some strategy and there are god powers that are unique and help out Jason and the Argonauts in a time of need, at the same time all you have to do is equip the mace and just click the power swing button over and over again until all the enemies drop. Every once in a while you may need to use your shield or dodge but most of the time the little strategy that this game can implement has value only against boss fights. And the boss fights are not even that fluid; once you memorize the pattern you can take out a boss very quickly.
