Fallout 3 PAX Preview

The editors at GameSpy bring us a closer look at Fallout 3 from the show floor of the Penny Arcade Expo.
Disillusioned with the town of Minefield, I proceeded down a road where I could see some smokestacks looming in the distance. When I finally arrived, significantly battered from my explosive exodus from Minefield, I found an abandoned power station. Remembering the premise of Fallout 3, I briefly entertained the hope that my missing father might be inside... unlikely, perhaps, but it was within the realm of possibility that entering the power station was a good idea.

Initially my hunch seemed to pay off, as the first room in the power station contained a vending machine full of delicious and life-giving Nuka Cola (which was also irradiated, but as it turns out I could handle a pretty large amount of radiation with no ill effects). Instead of finding my beloved lost father inside the power station, however, I was greeted by a horde of drooling ghouls who, like so many zombified individuals before them, hungered for the brains of humanity. Or, more specifically, my brains.

To make matters worse, one of these buggers was glowing and you just know that that is not a good sign at all. So, they attacked and I battled valiantly, but ultimately I just didn't have enough dog meat, bloatfly meat, stimpacks or other healing remedies to keep myself alive.
