The vilest magic and the most dangerous alchemical experiments are carried out by the sorcerers of the Black Ring Citadel. As a result, the chambers below the fortress have become polluted and this effluvium has had a strange effect on the lizards dwelling in the lightless sewers below. Whether their evolution has regressed or accelerated is not known for sure but the existence of these hybrid humanoid reptiles is well-known and feared by the Stygian population above.
The Scaleskin Lizards have been blamed for disappearances in the city above but they're usually content to dwell in the lightless chambers beneath and perform cultish rites. Their sub-human intelligence is apparently driven by the worship of primitive gods; vile fusions of reptile, insect and slimy tentacled horrors of living madness. What end these creatures seek is not known. What is known is that anyone foolish enough to trespass in their territory risks being torn part and consumed by these gibbering, howling monstrosities.
