Dragonlance Movie Journal #2

RPG Vault has provided us with a second installment to their ongoing series of diaries for Paramount's upcoming Dragonlance animated movie. This time, author Margaret Weis tells us about writing the original Dragons of Autumn Twilight novel:
With the upcoming release of the new animated movie, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, I've been asked to reminisce about the writing of the novel, which was first published in 1984. Since that time, the three books in the Dragonlance Chronicles series (the others are Dragons of Winter Night and Dragons of Spring Dawning) have been continuously in print and consistently on bestseller lists. They have been translated into many languages and sold millions of copies around the world.

People always ask Tracy and me if we had any foreknowledge that the books would be so successful. The answer is that we didn't have a clue. All we hoped for in those days was that the first one would sell out of its initial (small) print run.

Dragonlance Chronicles was the creation of Tracy Hickman, working at that time as a game designer for TSR, creators of Dungeons & Dragons. His idea involved a world in which dragons were at war with each other, with knights riding on dragonback into battle. He envisioned a series of role-playing game modules with an overarching storyline in which the players were not simply going out to beat up monsters and gain treasure. His heroes would have a nobler goal - striving to defeat evil and bring back the knowledge of the true gods to the world.

The article also includes an exclusive sneak peek showing off some footage of Raistlin in the movie.
