Aside from having an intriguing sci-fi backdrop and a multi-threaded conversation structure, this is a game that can grip you at an early point and keep you riveted to the screen for a good 20 hours.
Mass Effect has it all a well realised futuristic setting, lots of interesting and believable characters, a palpable sense of inhabiting the character that you're playing and, most of all, a narrative that knows exactly how to leave you wanting more. That's quite an achievement considering the game is fairly open-ended in nature.
