Vaporware 2007: Long Live the King

Wired.com has compiled a list of ten gadgets and games that never materialized during this past year, including an as-of-yet unannounced Diablo sequel.
Gaming giant Blizzard Entertainment hasn't made mention of this follow-up to 2000's Diablo II in some time, but that hasn't quieted the buzz around the fantasy action role-player. Many contend the recently released Hellgate: London carries the Diablo II torch into the future by using similar characters and game design. Indeed, Hellgate creator Flagship Studios is made up of ex-Diablo developers who jumped ship from Blizzard, but Diablo III it's not.

Also, job postings plastered with a "top secret" label recently went up on Blizzard's website, fomenting speculation that the company is ramping up work on the game. The project is listed as an unspecified "Next-Gen MMO" -- super vague, but enough to get the Diablo III rumor mill churning.
