It is common for accomplished students of the Academy of Shapers and Binders opt to remain at the school and continue their studies, even after graduation. The best among them may even be handpicked by its long-tenured headmistress to become members of the school's masters, and none are known to refuse the honor. This uncommon retention rate is often attributed to the skill of the faculty, although it's also frequently the experience of the students that there is nowhere else they could go after attending the Academy that would satisfy their unusual intellectual needs.
Classes at the school are often theoretical or experimental - little of what is taught there is based on actual concrete results, though few would think possible some of the bizarre and extraordinary things that have been achieved there. The branches of study at the Academy usually correspond to the particular fixations and whims of the faculty at any given time, but study of the transference, splitting, fusing, replication, and artificial creation of souls is all at the heart of what they learn.
