Silverfall Reviews

Atari and Monte Cristo's Silverfall is the subject of two new online reviews, though one is considerably more positive than the other. 1Up's angry Matt Peckham (of NWN2 review fame) gives the game an overall score of 3.0/10:
Folks, start your lawnmowers. You're Some Guy" kicked out of your city (Silverfall) by demons and tasked with winning it back, one gopher gig at a time. That means pointing your mouse at the nearest forest/swamp/dungeon/et cetera stocked with hundreds of Frankenfantasy critters and hewing with your hack-o-matic arsenal like an autistic finger-tapper. "Combat" and "Magic" skills comprise the scaffolding that'll build your human/elf/goblin/troll into an ace fighter or magic-user, while a third, ambivalently labeled "Other," lets you hedge points in oppositional "Nature" or "Technology" trees. Want defense-boosting neural mods? Acid blood? Mechanical slaves? Lycanthropy? You got 'em...if you can get to them before Silverfall hitches on silly glitches compounded by even sillier design choices.

While GameZone gives the game an overall score of 7.3/10:
The game does have some stumbles but is generally an entertaining game that, while story driven, does have a certain amount of charm as well as a decent story. The fact that the character design is so open-ended makes the game very customizable as far as the experience is concerned. While not a top-tier game, the title still manages to make for an enjoyable experience.
