Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Reviews

Several more reviews of Sigil Games' Vanguard: Saga of Heroes showed up on the web over this past week. The first is at G4 with an overall score of 3/5:
The run-of-the-mill level grinding in Vanguard is no better or worse than any other MMO. It's a little disappointing that we still have to deal with crap like this. But there are some neat ideas in Vanguard. And these ideas have the benefit of keeping player busy with something other than smacking down a million giant rats with your broadsword. For that alone you ought to give Vanguard a shot, but you might want to wait until they've spruced it up a bit.

The second is at CVG/PC Gamer with an overall score of 6.8/10:
High, high up, way past the point of boredom, crafting enables the making of houses and boats. Boats! That's a game that's aiming high. A shame its lofty destination can only be reached by an uncomfortable journey.

The third is at GotNext with an overall score of 4/5:
With stability very solid for a MMO this new, quests that are usually more than FedEx adventures, and a combat engine that adds several layers to what we've seen so far... it's incredibly hard not to recommend Vanguard to the dedicated MMO-fan. Even if you're one of those willing to die for the Horde, you may want to at least check out the saga these heroes are spinning.

The fourth is at Ace Gamez with an overall score of 7/10:
Despite some bugs, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes still remains instantly accessible for those with some patience, and you will need a great deal of patience, because although WoW showed everyone how fun MMORPGs can be once you design them to be accessible to all, Vanguard is a game geared towards the hardcore players who crave more of a challenge. It isn't going to top Blizzard's behemoth, and neither will anyone leaving WoW in search of new adventure feel particularly comfortable in Vanguard's unforgiving world, but it is a deep and challenging, if somewhat backwards, online game that'll offer more than enough new thrills for the MMORPG traditionalists.

And the fifth is at Games Asylum with an overall score of 7/10:
On paper Vanguard is a brilliant game. In reality, it has a lot of unfulfilled ambition. This is a game that will be different in six months time, and could be completely changed in a couple of years. Play it at your discretion. Or don't, if the idea of spending most of your free time in a virtual fantasy world sounds pointless.
