Hellgate: London Previews

Flagship Studios' Hellgate: London is the subject of four new previews, all of which are based on what was shown of the action RPG at this year's Game Developers Conference. The first is at GameSpot:
The templar faction is one of the three factions in Hellgate: London, along with the cabalist and hunter factions. The templars are warriors, the aforementioned future knight, while the cabalists are magic users and the hunters are high-tech assassins. And for a long time, it was believed that those three factions would represent the three classes in the game. However, it turns out that each faction features different class types, so you can specialize in the type of character that you want to play. And to demonstrate, Flagship is using the blademaster and guardian.

The second is at GameSpy:
We got a more in-depth demonstration of the Blademaster, which is a melee class designed around speed, surprise and devastating combination attacks. The class can dual-wield swords, and has skills like sweep and whirlwind. He also has auras that will grant bonuses to his attacks. From the demo we saw, the blademaster makes short work of most of the simple enemies, taking two or three down with a single blow.

The third is at 1Up:
Both the Templars look sort of like an industrial knight, with battle-worn metal and a glowing cross on the helmet. Each character class has its own specific armor, but it's optional whether you want to dress your character in that style or not. Everything seems to be customizable, from the colors of your outfit to the asymmetrical style. Your swords and guns can be outfitted with stat-boosting attachable items that are actually visible in-game.

And the fourth is at IGN PC:
Along with the classes, we also had the opportunity to check out a couple of new levels including a new cathedral template. These areas look a bit more structurally complex than what we've previously seen adding some nice visually interesting ideas. Colors are still pretty gray and depressed in these areas which keeps with the overall theme. Inside the cathedral area we got a nice look at the Morphid monster. This creature start off small and if given enough time will morph into a much larger version of itself that can deal out a lot more damage.

There's also a new Hellgate: London GDC trailer available for download at FileFront, in case you're interested.
