Mage Knight: Apocalypse Diary #4

RPG Vault is offering up a fourth diary for Namco's Mage Knight: Apocalypse, this time with senior producer Dave Georgeson discussing the way the game scales itself for multiplayer sessions.
The system for scaling is enormously complicated "under the hood", but in essence, we calculate how powerful your character is, compare that to how your character started, and create a sort of ratio of power. This is then applied to the monsters you face, and their health and damage (amongst other things) are scaled up appropriately. There are many other factors involved in the scaling, but that's the general idea of it. And, of course, loot is also scaled in the same fashion so that you keep getting cooler item drops as you become more and more veteran.

What does this let us do? Well... for one, it allows us to keep Mage Knight: Apocalypse challenging, no matter how you personally progress through the game. In other words, the game is constantly auto-tuning to your play style.
