Mass Effect E3 Preview

The folks at GameWatchers have finally gotten around to posting their E3 preview of BioWare's Mass Effect.
Mass Effect will surely be wildly popular, and please both hardcore and casual gamers alike. When trying to decide what aspects of the game most impressed me, I found myself falling back on the old graphics argument. The game looks very pretty, as it should running on Unreal Engine 3, but then again most of the good games at E3 looked graphically impressive. What really makes Mass Effect stand out from the pack are the innovations it brings to increase the immersiveness of game play. Watching the characters interact and have dialog with other characters, I felt immersed in a deep and compelling storyline. When you play this game you really do get swept away and actually feel like you are part of the story, and a rather captivating story at that. The dialogue makes it feels as if you are directing a great movie instead of just playing a great game. Even with what little we have seen, Mass Effect has shown us the best integration of story and immersive game play to date, hands down.
