Many parallels can be drawn between Mass Effect and Bioware's last major game, Knights of the Old Republic. You'll play a character whose gender and starting can be chosen. You'll have two buddies with you. You'll be able to channel Biotic energy, much like the Force, and you'll be unraveling a story about the possible end of all life in the galaxy. But this is a whole new property and while some of the gameplay conventions are similar, you'll find that Mass Effect is truly next-gen.
