The Legend of Ares Interview, Part Two

RPG Vault has posted the second portion of their interview with MGame's June Lee, in which the lead designer answers two more pages of questions about their fantasy MMORPG, The Legend of Ares. A taste:
Q: What kinds of functions do quests fulfill in The Legend of Ares? And what type of system have you implemented in this area?

A: The basic and fundamental roles of quests are to entertain, level and focus players so that they can efficiently level and party up when they are not enjoying the PvP aspects of the game. In addition, many distinctive quests will enable players to build relationships with NPCs, which will provide those players with opportunities to understand the flow of the story and the purpose of their existence in the game. Furthermore, players will be able to make many friends within the game due to how our quests are organized. We can briefly describe the characteristics of quests by dividing them into three categories.

In the beginning stage of play, quests will guide players to learn about the basic structure of the game such as monsters, keys, functions of various items and potions, interfaces and so forth. In the middle stage, we have created quests that require a lot of collaboration with other players. Players will still be able to complete quests even if they play individually; however, it will be way more difficult and take much longer. Towards the end, players will encounter many monstrous creatures that are almost impossible to kill individually regardless of their levels. Players will be in very big trouble if they do not have any friends or supporters in the game!
