EverQuest II Interview

Stratics has conducted an interview with Sony Online's Ryan "Blackguard" Shwayder about the company's current and future plans for EverQuest II. A snippet, as usual:
Q: What are the long-term plans for crafters?

A: We have a number of plans for the crafting system that we've been working on while simultaneously creating recipes for Kingdom of Sky and New Character Progression. As we've mentioned before, we'll be removing subcombines from all recipes. That means you'll be able to get right to making the cool items you want to without having to make a bunch of other components first. This change also includes using cross-tier harvestables. Recipes of a certain tier could use any raw materials from the previous tier and include the materials from the current tier. In this way, many of the raw materials will be useful for everyone at all levels.

Also, we're looking into some new items to be made for each of the classes that will allow repeat business, similar to what provisioners and alchemists enjoy now. Some of this has been seen with the new carpenter repair kits. And we're looking at rare recipes that require exotic components (dragon scales, essence of fire, etc.) which are difficult to obtain through quests or adventuring. This puts the risk and reward back in line while still allowing crafters to make some of the nicer equipment (read: Fabled) in the game.
