EverQuest II: Kingdom of Sky Interview

RPG Vault has published a three-page interview with Sony Online's Scott Hartsman, quizzing the senior producer about the newly released EverQuest II: Kingdom of Sky expansion pack. Check it out:
Q: What are Achievements and how does the new system for them function? Have you made any other changes to the ways in which characters and guilds advance?

A: Character and Guild advancement remains the same as it was before. Those are solid and really not in any need of improvement. We were not looking to change the core advancement mechanics of the game in this expansion.

Achievements are a huge new addition to EverQuest II, and they're there for everyone who's level 20 and up. They're abilities that you earn during the course of normal gameplay by accomplishing heroic things such as slaying difficult creatures, completing quests, and exploring new areas. These are things that you're already doing when you play. You're not diverting from your primary advancement in order to invest in Achievement.

Achievement Points can be spent in a tree of abilities that's based on your class. Most abilities have multiple ranks. Some people might choose to specialize by spending their points to ensure they have all ranks of a small number of abilities. Other people may choose to spend their points more broadly, to gain some amount of proficiency in as many as they can.

This system is about doing heroic, adventurous things in the world, taking your character's knowledge from having done them, and investing it in further enhancing your character in ways that you choose.
