The Sword of Aeons has the potential to kill TLC's balance completely. No matter what we do with the creatures in the new areas of the game, some miserable sod is going to come in and say: "But I've got the most powerful sword ever made." Boom. Monsters dead. Easy. So we rebalance the creatures -- by. um. doubling their hit points and armor or something. But then: Oh no! Here comes Mr. Goody, a hero who left the sword in the void, apparently deciding his sister was worth keeping around. "Hey!" he shouts. "These creatures are kicking my ass!"
