Auto Assault Preview

GameSpy has published a five-page preview of Auto Assault, after spending some firsthand time with NCsoft and NetDevil's upcoming post-apocalyptic vehicular MMORPG. A little something to get you started:
The layout of the world of Auto Assault, then, resembles a cave system. In the middle is a big open cavern filled with monsters where anything goes. Leading off of this cavern are tunnels. Some of them lead to safe pockets, some lead to dead ends occupied by big monsters and big treasures, and some of them lead to cave-ins that, if the rubble is cleared, will lead to a similar area where everything gets tougher. This system is NetDevil's answer to the problem of giving players the freedom to play the game the way they want without letting players into areas that are too tough for them or boring players by offering them vast, empty worlds where nothing is happening. As the player progresses and completes the quests in these "linking instances," the world will gradually get larger. For instance, once the player clears out the instanced cave-in that's blocking Highway 667, it will always be clear for that player, and he or she can use it to move on to new areas.
